A CBD store in Blackpool was vandalised by anti-drug campaigners over the weekend – despite the fact it sells legal food supplements.
The vandals smashed the window of No.1 CBD LTD, super-glued the lock, and spray-painted ‘STOP DRUGS’ across the front.
Manager Joanne Thompson, 52, discovered the crime on Saturday morning.
Her theory is anti-drug vigilantes targeted the shop believing it was selling cannabis – despite the fact that the drug is illegal in the UK and cops would be quick to shut down any shop that sold it openly.
She told the Blackpool Gazette: “A friend let me know. She was passing on her way to work and saw it. I thought she was joking at first.
“It’s just mindless because it is totally legal, and government-approved.
“It’s a supplement, they sell it in Holland and
Barrett, so why have they just targeted us?
“It’s just down to ignorance.”
Legal and safe
Joanne says the lock cost £100 to fix and the window could
cost her £700 to replace.
In the UK, cannabis (with a high content of THC, the psychoactive component that gets users ‘high’) is a controlled drug as classified by the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
THC is a cannabinoid, one of more than 100 that make up
cannabis plants.
CBD is also a cannabinoid but contains little or no THC, so
can be sold legally in the UK.
It is also believed to have positive medicinal effects, including relieving inflammation, pain control, and reducing anxiety - although research into its health effects are ongoing.
