In 2023, new medical marijuana ID cards will be issued in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Department of Health has announced that starting on January 1, 2023, all medical marijuana identification cards printed will have a new look.
As patients renew their IDs, the newly created cards will gradually replace the old ones. Wait until your current card expires if you are a patient or caregiver; there is no need to obtain a new ID.
The new cards behave and perform in the same manner as the cards with the previous design. Dispensaries will be informed and obligated to accept both card designs.
The governor’s office defines “medical marijuana” as the use of the entire unprocessed marijuana plant or its fundamental extracts to treat a condition or symptom. In 2016, medical marijuana became legal in Pennsylvania; however, recreational marijuana is still illegal.
