A NYC Councilman Discovers Numerous Stores in Manhattan Selling Marijuana Illegally.

Since recreational marijuana usage is now legal in New York, but retail sales are not yet, a worrying pattern has emerged on the city’s streets.

Gale Brewer, a member of the New York City Council, has discovered multiple outlets in the city selling marijuana before it is legal.

She found that the state’s efforts to increase tax income from marijuana were really contributing to the difficulties she was hearing about.

They’re worried their kids may go into the stores and buy weed, so they complain to Brewer about it, he says. “All I hear is that. Why is there one so close to a place of learning?”

The proliferation of smoke businesses on the Upper West Side has prompted complaints from residents.

It’s been five months, but I swear it’s only been three, but Brewer remarked, “I would not have anticipated, and I think I know things, that 61 tobacco shops would open.”

Brewer reported that her crew was able to stroll into 26 of the 61 new smoke shops (including bodegas and delis) and purchase marijuana immediately.

Despite the fact that legitimate sales have not started. As a result, Brewer wrote a letter to state and municipal authorities and state agencies in New York urging them to help enhance the state’s cannabis regulations.

The letter stated, “…the lack of its enforcement in these early days threatens to undermine the intent of the law before the legal market even begins to take shape.”

It would appear as though they are, but Brewer is confident that “not one of them” has a license to sell cannabis.

The Office of Cannabis Management stated last week that some dispensaries would be allowed to begin making deliveries in an effort to speed up legal sales.

However, the proliferation of smoke shops isn’t without its drawbacks, as evidenced by the two robberies that occurred at the same Upper West Side store in the month of August.

This Isn’t the Only Case, Though.

Jimmy Wray Said, “got Robbed a Number of Times, Got Broke into a Couple of Times, I See a Lot of Different Folks Go in There.”

Once Will “continue Working with Our State and Local Partners to Discontinue Operations from These Unlawful Outlets and We Will Work to Offer Legal and Safe Tested Cannabis Goods Before the End of The Year” (from the More than 50 Cease and Desist Letters Delivered to Illegal Shops This Year).

Brewer said that A Lot of Effort Had Been Put in By the State to Ensure that Even Felons Could Access Business Financing and Opening Opportunities. “Suddenly, They Would Be surrounded by an illegitimate matrix. That creates an issue because it’s not equitable.”
