Steven Avery, 58 years old, was born in the state of Wisconsin. His relatives have a scrap metal business in the city of Two Rivers. In his marriage to Lori Mathiesen, he welcomed four children: Rachel, Jenny, Steven, and Will. Once, in 1985, Steven was falsely accused of assaulting a young female runner.
While he was behind bars, he was divorced by his wife Lori and lost custody of their children, including newborn twins at the time of his conviction. Steven Avery was born and raised in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, where his family had a salvage business. He failed out of high school and had a reported IQ of 70. He was sentenced to ten months in prison in 1981 after being found guilty of burglarizing a bar.
After being arrested the year after he doused a cat in gasoline and threw it into a bonfire, he pled guilty to animal cruelty and received a nine-month sentence. In 1985, he got into more legal trouble when he tried to pull the car of his cousin Sandra Morris, the wife of a sheriff’s deputy, off the road and pointed a gun at her.
Avery claimed he only wanted her to stop “spreading rumors” about him after she filed a complaint against him in 1984, claiming he had exposed himself on multiple occasions. Following the vehicle incident, he was given a six-year sentence but was later released on bail.

Making A Murderer, a Netflix docuseries may have introduced many people to Steven Avery‘s narrative. Avery is presently serving a life sentence in Wisconsin’s Waupun Correctional Institution. He has been fighting a murder conviction that dates back to 2007 ever since.

Is Steven Avery Still In Jail?
Although Steven Avery’s last appeal to have his murder conviction overturned was denied, his case may not be over just yet. Avery, now 59, is serving a life sentence for the 2005 disappearance and murder of Halbach, a 25-year-old photographer.
The documentary “Making a Murderer,” available on Netflix, chronicled his story. which caused many viewers to believe Avery and his nephew, Brendan Dassey, were wrongfully convicted by raising questions about the motives of detectives investigating Halbach’s death.
In late July, the Wisconsin Court of Appeals rejected several of Avery’s arguments he’s made over the years, such as his contention that his trial attorneys did a poor job or that the prosecution improperly handled evidence.
