Woody Harrelson has been acting for the past 38 years in movies and television. While the veteran actor is best recognized for his work in the entertainment industry, he also has a reputation for selling marijuana.
The 61-year-old Emmy winner opened up about his career in a recent interview with CBS Sunday Morning, where he also allowed cameras inside The Woods, a cannabis shop he co-owns in West Hollywood.
Harrelson, who became famous as the friendly bartender Woody Boyd on the TV show Cheers, worries that his strong support for marijuana has hurt his career. He said that people weren’t exactly supportive when he first started talking about it 25 years ago, calling it his “coming out of the closet on the herb thing.”
According to Harrelson, “I don’t think that helped” his career because his reaction “was not a joyous, frolicking, fun response.” “In this business, everyone is so eager to label you,” she said.
In an effort to improve his connections with his family, the Hunger Games actor stopped smoking marijuana some years ago.
“I aimed to have a strong emotional connection with my loved ones. It worked out well as an experiment, “according to Harrelson, who is based in Hawaii with his family. At one of their poker games, though, it was another famous face that drew him back in: country music legend Willie Nelson.
“Willie constantly pretended that he was unaware that I had left. Once Cheers’s long run came to an end, Harrelson didn’t think he’d have much success in the acting world.
“Six years into my career, I still hadn’t done any other roles, so I figured that was it. It was also far more difficult to go straight from watching TV to a movie. There’s a chance for growth in either direction now “He elaborated on what had happened. Nonetheless, Harrelson eventually found considerable success in the film industry, to the point where he was nominated for three Academy Awards.
The lead role in Jerry Maguire is the one role he wishes he hadn’t passed up.
To which I reply, “That was a blunder,” he laughed. And then I hear that Tom Cruise is doing it two days later and I’m like, “Oh, I could have f****d it up!”
Harrelson, never one to keep quiet, caused a stir with his fifth hosting of “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend. After a meandering introductory speech that made references to COVD conspiracies, Harrelson shared a tale about the “craziest script” he’d ever seen.
Harrelson explained the plot by saying, “So the movie goes like this.” All the inhabitants of the globe are forced to stay inside their houses by the world’s largest drug gangs, who band together to buy up the media and all the politicians. And the only way out is to take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them until you get out.”
Finally, Harrelson said, “I threw the script away.”
Who, after all, would have believed such wild speculation? Subjected to coercive drug use? He declared, “I do that voluntarily all day.”
