CBD vs THC: what’s the difference?

In this article, we will go through CBD vs THC and the differences you need to know. Even though CBD and TCH are both cannabinoids they have a lot of different characteristics. It is very important to know these differences before you purchase cannabis-based products.

THC and CBD are two of the most popular and commonly found compounds in the cannabis plant. Both substances react with the human endocannabinoid system but they interact differently, creating separate distinct effects. Before we talk about the differences, it is important to know what TCH and CBD are.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

Cannabidiol, more well known as CBD is one of the active ingredients found in the hemp and cannabis plant. CBD has become extremely popular over the last few years due to the healing properties it provides.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

THC is another main compound found in the cannabis plant. It is popular for its psychoactive properties and giving people the feeling of being ‘high’. Tetrahydrocannabinol can induce hallucinations and cause thinking patterns to change.

Psychoactive Differences

One of the main differences between CBD and THC is how only one is psychoactive. When someone takes a CBD product such as CBD oil, they will not, no matter how much they consume, become ‘high’. This is because the oil does not bind with the bodies cannabinoid 1 receptors (CB1).

However, THC is in fact, the opposite. When someone takes or smokes cannabis with a high level of THC in, they will become intoxicated. The THC, when in the body, reacts with the endocannabinoid system. When this happens, the body will activate the CB1 receptors and create a ‘high’ feeling.

Legal Differences

Knowing the legal differences between CBD and THC is important when it comes to the buying and consumption of each. The legality of each compound varies from country to country and even state to state.

However, cannabis products with a high level, and sometimes any THC are less likely to be legal in most countries. Whereas, CBD products, because of their medical uses are becoming legal in mostly all countries.

In most states in the US, medical cannabis, which is made from mainly CBD is legal when prescribed by a medical professional. Certain countries such as The Netherlands have legalised cannabis with high levels of THC in. But this cannabis can only be legally sold in licensed coffee shops.

CBD vs THC for pain

For many years, the pain relief and healing properties of cannabis products have been recognised worldwide. From research and real-life cases, we have seen the benefits of medical marijuana and CBD products.

CBD oil is used to help treat chronic pain, relieve anxiety and depression and treat acne. This is very similar to how medical cannabis works because they all contain high levels of CBD. However, cannabis with high levels of THC has not yet proven to have large health benefits.

Conclusion: CBD vs THC

Neither compound found in the well-known cannabis plant is greater than the other. They both have different characteristics and side effects. THC is used more for recreational uses and CBD more for medical treatment.
