Sales of recreational marijuana in the state of Missouri begin on Friday in the city of Kansas City. Dispensaries in the Kansas City area have stated that they would begin selling to customers over the age of 21 on Friday. For months, dispensaries have been getting ready for today.
An official with Earth told that they’ve hired 40 more people in preparation for recreational sales. Co-owner Adam Diltz of From the Earth estimated that business would be five times as busy as usual during lunchtime on a weekday due to the snowstorm.
They’ve gone further because of the quantity. Diltz said that the company has “extended its infrastructure a little bit, added more counter space, more (point of sale) stations for individuals to check out” to guarantee a swift customer turnover.
On Friday, many dispensaries in the Kansas City area opened their doors to the public for recreational sales, including Good Day Farm, Fresh Green Dispensary, and Greenlight. On Friday, the state finally began handing out permits for legal recreational sales.
Prior to the recreational market opening, 318 of Missouri’s 322 medical marijuana dispensaries applied to have their licenses converted. On Monday, it’s expected that a larger number of clinics that have been cleared for medical marijuana sales will also be given clearance for recreational sales.
That’s great news for businesses in Missouri, where restricting sales to medicinal users might be problematic. Diltz said that increased sales volumes might help businesses reduce their tax liabilities and earn a profit.
